It's been raining a LOT here in Seattle lately, and I find myself dreaming about tropical vacations. Unfortunately, that's not really in the budget for this year, thanks to large tuition checks being written for my grad school and Vivian's preschool. So I've started looking at getaways closer to home. I might not be able to get out of the rainy weather, but I can at least be distracted! I recently got some information about a getaway package in Portland that sounds great- here are the details!
PORTLAND’S HOTEL LUCIA INTRODUCES CHEF VITALY “PALEY’S PICKS” GETAWAY
PACKAGE FEATURES JAMES BEARD AWARD AND IRON CHEF AMERICA WINNER’S LOCAL
FAVORITES
January 7, 2013 – PORTLAND, Ore. – Downtown Portland is abuzz
with culinary creativity and, with two brand new restaurants located just off
the lobby of the award-winning Hotel Lucia, Chef Vitaly Paley is leading the
charge and drawing both critical and popular acclaim. In honor of Paley’s new
Imperial and Portland Penny Diner, Hotel Lucia is proud to offer visitors to the
modern mecca of food and drink a “Paley’s Picks” room package featuring the
James Beard Award winner and Iron Chef America champion’s favorite local
products, a signed copy of his cookbook and delectable dining right on
site.
The last three months of 2012 were big for Paley, a Portland
culinary pioneer who has long been lauded for his scene-defining Paley’s Place
restaurant. In September, he opened Imperial, a restaurant that explores the
region’s culinary heritage, to praise from local chefs, Portland’s food-obsessed
populace and culinary luminaries at Food & Wine and Bon Appetit. Portland
Penny Diner, a more casual spot, opened in November and immediately became
sought after for house made sodas and sensational sandwiches. Both are located
on the ground floor of Hotel Lucia, a boutique hotel acclaimed in its own right
for showcasing the work of another famed Portlander, the Pulitzer Prize-winning
photographer David Hume Kennerly, and have quickly become must-sample
destinations for foodies visiting the city.
Those who book the “Paley’s
Picks” package will enjoy an only-in-Portland epicurean getaway, staying in a
luxurious room at Hotel Lucia and enjoying a $50 gift certificate for dining in
either Imperial or Portland Penny Diner. In their room, they will find
autographed copy of The Paley’s Place Cookbook and a welcome basket curated by
the acclaimed chef featuring some of his favorite local products. Sure to kick
off any culinary exploration of Portland in style, it includes a bottle of
Argyle Brut sparkling wine from the nearby Willamette Valley wine country,
hand-crafted chocolates from Portland’s own Cacao chocolatier and two of Paley’s
signature Fruit & Nut Bars, a delicious blend of dried fruits, nuts, and
honey that is perfect for pairing with cheese or nibbling out of hand.
Hotel Lucia’s “Paley’s Picks” package is priced from $289 per night,
plus tax, and is available now through June 30, 2013. To book, call 866-986-8086
