Bellevue WA's Paule Attar Salon & Spa is helping educate young women about breast cancer

When I think of breast cancer, I frequently think of it as a disease that just strikes older women. But we all know that's not true- people of all ages fight this deadly disease. During Breast Cancer Awareness month, a  local spa is helping to spread the word that even younger women need to be aware. Read on for details!

Oct 22--30 the Paule Attar staff is reaching out to young women ages 22 to 35 who may not be aware of the symptoms of breast cancer
Bellevue, WA, October 17,  2012—This October during National Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Paule Attar Salon and Spa has launched a campaign, “Pretty in Pink,” to raise awareness among  younger women to learn more about the early warning signs of breast cancer.

During Oct 22-30, Paule Attar is inviting women of all ages to stop by the salon for an informational goody bag filled with treats and good information about how you can detect the early warning signs of cancer.*

Paule Attar wants to share an important fact: many young women from the ages of 22 to 35 may not be aware that they are not too young to get breast cancer.  The information in the goody bags is a way of spreading the word to young women so they know what to look for, and they are aware of the early signs of breast cancer. *

For every year the Paule Attar Salon and Spa has been in business, the staff has experienced breast cancer in a very personal way. Through the years, they have seen some of their clients’ battle breast cancer and quite often they came to the salon for help with their hair. In fact a few women were much younger than 40 while they were in the throes of battling breast cancer.

During the month of October, the thirty five members of the Paule Attar staff will be wearing some variation of pink in the memory of their clients who have lost their lives to breast cancer: Pauline, Lynn, Sarah, Jackie, and Reine.

*American Cancer Society recommendations for early breast cancer detection
Women in their 20s and 30s should have a clinical breast exam (CBE) as part of a periodic (regular) health exam by a health professional, at least every 3 years.  Breast self exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s. Women should be told about the benefits and limitations of BSE. Women should report any breast changes to their health professional right away.
