No punches are pulled in this fascinating biography that covers the life and work of the prolific artist George Bellows. Having spent most of his adult life in New York City, Bellows left behind an extraordinary body of work that captures life in this dynamic city: bustling street scenes, ringside views of boxing matches, and boys diving and swimming in the East River. Art reproductions and photographs from his youth round out the book. The kids and I both thought this was a really interesting book. We loved looking at the reproductions of the paintings and learning about the artist.

Ethan really enjoyed the photos of the artist and the sports paintings, while I really liked the paintings of New York and of the artist's family. All in all, I thought this book was very enjoyable and a great way to get my kids more interested in art.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book to review for myself. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
