CD review and giveaway: Someone Else's Shoes

We have a lot of great kids' CDs in our house- it's one of the biggest perks of getting to review things related to kids.  There is one series of CDs that I especially love- the Recess Music Best Foot Forward Series.  So I was thrilled when the newest CD in this series showed up in my mailbox. It's called Someone Else's Shoes, and its just as fabulous as the CDs.  Here's a bit about the series and this CD, from the Recess Music website and from press release that I received:

Unfortunately, bullying, self esteem issues and the need for mutual care and understanding, don’t only occur in the school classroom.  Summer community sports teams, summer camp, neighborhood playgrounds…wherever kids gather… bullying and exclusion can happen.  Some children easily adapt to new situations and some children need extra help.  Children come in all different packages, sizes, and skills, as do all people.  Understanding about differences brings acceptance.  The Best Foot Forward Music Series is dedicated to using uplifting, fun music to create an appreciation for the adventure of being human.  We believe our positive, educational, entertaining music can bring human harmony and understanding.
All the songs on Someone Else's Shoes highlight empathy as a key ingredient for living in harmony with others.  The album features 15 tracks that showcase contributions by a sampling of some of today's most gifted kids' musicians, including two-time GRAMMY®winners Cathy Fink &Marcy Marxer, four-time Emmy® winning composer/performer Jamie Broza, and Parents' Choice® and NAPPA winner Swingset Mamas.

I'm always amazed at how much my kids pick up from music that's playing in the background.  They're constantly surprising me by asking later about something they heard in a song or by suddenly singing song lyrics that I didn't know that they knew.  As they get older, I'm realizing more and more how important it is to have positive music playing while they're listening.  Someone Else's Shoes definitely fits the bill. Each of the 15 songs on the album is performed by a different group or musician, so there are lots of different voices and styles to listen to. I really like this- it keeps the CD fresh and fun to listen to.  And all the songs are great ones both musically and because of the positive lyrics. They encourage us to take care of others, be nice to others, not judge one another and even to realize that "old people" are fun people too (and much more)!

I like this CD because of the message in the songs, and my kids think it's just fun to listen to and to dance along with. That's a win-win for this mom.  Someone Else's Shoes will be available for purchase on July 31 and is available for pre-order now, from Amazon.
