"Step right up, ladies and gentlemen, and children of all ages! Celebrated independent children's recording group Recess Monkey brings high flying thrills and spills straight from the big top to their circus- inspired, eighth studio CD. In Tents (Monkey Mama, $14.99, for ages 3-8, run time 47 minutes. Released June 19, 2012. Distributed by Burnside Distribution Corporation).
Right from the start, it's apparent something big is going to happen on In Tents, as Recess Monkey enters the world of the all-American fantasy: running away to join the circus! Except, this time, through the trickery of the notorious Boregaard Noregaard, the circus joins Recess Monkey. From that point on, it's a three-ring adventure with Recess Monkey: a fantastical celebration of popcorn, Tilt-a-Whirls, human cannonballs, dancing bears and more."I really liked that the songs on this CD tell a story, and go along with photos that are included in the CD insert. It's all silly and funny and as with all Recess Monkey music, entertaining. Ethan particularly liked the song called "Bouncy House" as bouncy houses are one of his favorite places to play, and he thought that it was funny to hear a song that talks about bouncy houses. I can't wait to see them perform these songs at the Teatro Zinzanni show that's designed around this new CD! (For information on that show, visit my blog post here).
The kids and I both weren't quite as crazy about this CD as we were about Flying and the Final Funktier (but we were totally over the top about those, so it's hard to beat that), and I thought the songs on the first part of the CD in particular all kind of sounded alike. That being said, it's still a really fun and enjoyable CD to listen to, with great music and vocals. Recess Monkey still reigns as one of our favorite kids' musical groups.
