Book review: Brave Irene

I'm thrilled that my kids both have inherited my love of books.  We have shelves full of kids' books and Ethan and Vivian are always bringing armloads out to the living room for me to read to them.  Which I am generally very happy to do, but occasionally I do have other things that have to get done around the house (like laundry or cooking). And since neither kid knows how to read yet on their own, my departure from the reading area never ends well.  Which is why I was really happy when a new children's book arrived at our home- a children's book accompanied by a CD of Meryl Streep reading the book!

The book is called Brave Irene and here's a bit about it, from a press release that I received:

Brave Irene is Irene Bobbin, the dressmaker’s daughter. Her mother, Mrs. Bobbin, isn’t feeling so well and can’t possibly deliver the beautiful ball gown she’s made for the duchess to wear that very evening. So plucky Irene volunteers to get the gown to the palace in time, in spite of the fierce snowstorm that’s brewing – quite an errand for a little girl!

But where there’s a will, there’s a way, as Irene proves in the danger-fraught adventure that follows. She must defy the wiles of the wicket wind, her most formidable opponent, and overcome many obstacles before she completes her mission. Surely, this winning heroine will inspire every child to cheer her on.

Narrated by the iconic Meryl Streep, this Book & CD Set charms with vivid illustrations, an exciting storyline, and the perfect voice to bring it all together. Also including a read-along track, Brave Irene is the kind of book that children will grow up listening to, and then excitedly read to themselves!

I thought the illustrations in this book were beautiful, and Meryl Streep (of course) does an amazing job reading the book. She puts so much energy into reading this book and really brings it to life. My kids loved sitting with me and listening to her read while we looked at the pictures.  A great time was had by all!

Disclosure: I received this book and CD to review for myself. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
