CD review and giveaway: Big Bully

Lately the topic of bullying has been much discussed in the news, and I learned today that October is actually National Bullying Protection Month. All the statistics and stories are heartbreaking, and I know a lot of people are working to help kids learn how to deal with bullies.  My kids are still young and haven't experienced bullying yet, but it's never too early to start talking about it.  Recently I received a great kids' music CD from Recess Music called Big Bully, that talks about bullying (and other topics) in some wonderful songs. Here's a bit about Big Bully, from a press release that I received:
Recess Music, a company dedicated to helping kids value a world that is wise, fair, and generous hearted, has launched its “Best Foot Forward” series of CDs with Big Bully, an album featuring songs by such kids music luminaries as Milkshake, The Hipwaders and Renee & Jeremy.

The folks at Recess Music hope that Big Bully will help to encourage discussion among parents, children, and educators about harmony, understanding, social justice, and global peace, as well as the particular challenges caused by the unfortunate presence of intimidation and bullying behavior on our social landscape.
One could consider Recess Music’s “Best Foot Forward” series as the musical complement to a hip, up-to-date, and entirely relevant “course in manners” that reinforces a profound subtext and encourages kids to be the very best they can be. Almost all children really want to have friends and be good playmates, but to achieve these objectives they must learn key social structures and conventions, such as how to say, “I’m sorry” or how to live by the rule of “no put-downs” toward others.  Big Bully presents songs promoting these healthy, positive ideas by asking the question “Why can’t we just be friends?”  The album also provides a good antidote to the violence and bad manners that permeate so many video games and television shows.
The kids and I all really like this CD.  As with the other Recess Music CD that I recently reviewed (U R Some 1- see the review here!), Big Bully features lots of different artists and styles of music. I think that's a fun thing for a kids' CD, and it keeps things fun and fresh.  In addition to the great music, I like the topics that are discussed. Manners, bullying, treating others nicely, having a good attitude while playing sports- Big Bully covers it all. It's a fun way to start conversations about serious topics. This is a great CD- your kids (and you!) will love the music, and you will love the messages that the songs convey. It would be a great addition to anyone's music library.

And I have good news- one of you will win a copy of this CD! Enter at the Rafflecopter widget below!

Disclosure: I received this CD to review for myself. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.

My son is the victim of bullying. I don't think there is enough awareness to the problem.
