Review: MotherKnows

My son has some health problems that require quite a few visits to his regular doctor, as well as to specialists and therapists.  So it's very important for me to be able to have access to his personal health record  whenever and wherever I need it, all in one place so that I can find what I need quickly. So I was thrilled to have the chance to review a new service called MotherKnows, which is designed to do just that.  Here's a bit about the service, from its website:

  • Complete Records

Access your child’s essential health information: immunizations, medications, charts & allergies, all in one place.
  • Direct from Your Doctor

All records are collected directly from your child’s doctors. We do all the work. No data input required.
  • Safe & Secure

Hospital level 256 bit encryption. Password protected, TRUSTe verified privacy.
My doctor's office does offer online medical record access, but I've not found the site to be terribly user-friendly, especially with regards to making sure my son's immunizations are up to date, and with seeing his growth charts.  The MotherKnows site presents his information in a very easy-to-read format, so I can quickly see his personal health record and track immunization history.  Having the information right at my fingertips is so essential when I'm going from one doctor to the next- no more remembering to print out papers or find files, it's all right there. I also really could have used this service this summer when signing up Ethan for camps and schools- everyone wanted to know his immunization history and I was constantly having to find the file and decipher the handwriting on his records. Now it's all on my computer or iPod and with me at all times. Love it!

Requesting the records was easy- I just opened an account with MotherKnows, filled in basic information about Ethan and his doctor, and filled out an online medical records release form that MotherKnows sent me. After that, there was a bit of confusion and delay with getting Ethan's records uploaded, mainly because my doctor has a hypenated last name and Ethan's medical records aren't always consistent with how she is listed. The MotherKnows people were easy to reach and kept me updated through the process though, and I never felt like I had been forgotten.  When the records were all in the database, I received an email letting me know.  You do have the opportunity to check the records and make sure everything is right, and you can flag anything that you might have questions about.
There are two different membership levels available at MotherKnows the monthly subscription (in which MotherKnows will enter one child's medical record and update it quarterly at prescheduled times), and the yearly subscription (which offers support for multiple providers, full service record entry at set-up, and the ability to schedule four record collections per year).  For more information on the choices and details, visit this link.

I'm really happy to have the chance to use this service this year and think it will make my life easier as I try to keep track of all of Ethan's vital information and immunizations. I know there are lots of other busy moms out there in the same boat, and I'd encourage you to give the site a try! And don't forget, I'm hosting a giveaway for a year of premium service from MotherKnows- the giveaway closes on 9/15, so hurry over and enter!

Disclosure: I received access to this site so that I could review it for myself. All opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
