Mompact Blog Hop: Gripsterz StayAlong review and giveaway

I'm participating in Mompact's Blog Hop! Read my review, enter my giveaway and then hop on over to the next one. There are over 120 blogs participating, all with great prizes!  Visit Mompact for the full list, or check out the bottom of my post for the link to the next one on the list.

We're a city family, which means that the kids and I do most of our outings on foot.  Until recently, when we went out, the kids rode in a double stroller, with me doing all the work. However, they're now at a point where pushing them both in the double stroller is not too fun for Mommy.  I've been letting them walk more, but when we're all on foot, it seems like I'm constantly having a discussion with one or both kids about the fact that, yes, they do need to hold my hand when we're crossing a street or parking lot.

So I was really excited when I found out about Gripsterz StayAlong, and when I got chosen to do a review of this product. Here's a bit about Gripsterz StayAlong, from its website:

When adults and kids are out and about touring the town together, Gripsterz keeps those little wanderers close by. With their new best buddy – Grippy, kids are free to explore and enjoy their world – and their buddy always keeps them close to Mom or Dad.
Features here
  • Gripsterz kit includes: one irresistible Grippy monkey ring with attaching clip, two vine straps (1 ft & 2 ft) with an attaching clip, an adult handle, a convenient storage bag and a Grippy book for kids.
  • The Grippy adventure book enhances the child’s natural attachment tendencies to their new friend Grippy and encourages enjoyable adventure experiences.
  • Interchangeable pieces allow for a variety of adventure needs.
  • Easy to use
  • Can be clipped to a stroller, belt hoop, shopping cart, luggage, purse, and many other portable devices.
For more information on Gripsterz, you can visit their Facebook page, subscribe to their newsletter, or follow the  Twitter feed.

Gripsterz has made our outings SO much more enjoyable. Vivian in particular, hates holding my hand with a passion and inevitably screams and yells when I request that she do so.  But she's thrilled to hold on to the cute purple monkey! I forgot to take the Gripsterz with us yesterday when we went out, and she kept asking me for "purple monkey? purple monkey?" when she wanted to walk someplace. Ethan also likes holding on to the ring, so it's been a good way to keep the kids close when I need them close.

In the picture above, Vivian has chosen to wear the wrist strap, while Ethan is holding on to the purple monkey.  If you do have more than one child, that's an option, but additional monkeys can also be purchased and clipped on.  And when your Gripsterz is not in use, it folds up and can be stored in its storage pouch, and doesn't take up more than a tiny bit of space in your bag.

On a family outing, Vivian and I using the Gripsterz
I really like that this isn't a leash and it still requires compliance and cooperation from your child.  My kids know that, if they want the freedom of a little distance from Mommy, that means they have to do their parts and hold on to their end.  I also like that the parent end of the Gripsterz doesn't have to be carried in my hand, but can go around my wrist or be attached to a stroller or my purse or whatever.  This is especially handy when I have my hands full with grocery bags, but still need to keep the kids close.

This is a terrific product to have if you've got kids and do a lot of walking in busy areas. I think it would be great for family vacations to theme parks and amusement parks- it's a great way to keep everyone close!

And I have good news, I'm giving away a Gripsterz to one of you! Open to US mailing addresses only, please.  This giveaways is being done through Rafflecopter, so go visit the widget below for entry instructions. And when you're done entering my giveaway...

My son likes to wander away. Not good when he's with Daddy, since Daddy is kind of oblivious!

I have 4 kids - ages 17, 10, 6, & just turned 4. When the older ones are not with me, the 6 year old stirs up his younger brother and I end up chasing 1 in 1 direction while the other runs in the other direction. Not cool!

My son likes to walk instead of ride in the cart, and he's not always a fan of holding our hand, so this would be worth a try.

Holy snap, my son is a runner! This would help him learn to stick close to mommy when my hands are full with the other two kids.

I have 5 kids. While the older 4 have been through the drills, gotten the hang of it, and stay with me/hold on to me, and "choo-choo train" very good; my youngest (3 1/2) does not quite get it. I call him my "busy" child. This would hopefully help him to learn to hold on to me or at least stay close by.
