Review: Heelys!

My mother recently started reading my review blog (Hi mom!) and I'm pretty sure she's wondering right now if the Heelys that I'm going to review here are the ones that she's seen teenagers wearing.  Surely I, almost 35-years-old, mother of two, least coordinated person in the world and lifelong non-skater, did not put on shoes with wheels in the heels and try to skate?  Unbelievably enough, yes, I did.  However, since I've recently hurt my legs while jogging (I told you I am the least coordinated person in the world!), I didn't manage to get much further than pulling myself around the kitchen in my fancy new shoes.

Fortunately for all of us, I happen to be married to an ultra-athletic person who actually does know how to skate and who was happy to try out the Heelys for me.  Fortunately for him, I love him enough to not be (too) irritated by how easy he made it look :) Here he is, wheeling around outside our condo building.

When the Heelys first arrived, I was impressed by how solid and well made they are. These are seriously sturdy shoes. They are quite a bit larger and clunkier than my usual shoes, but not something I wouldn't wear out and about. Putting in the wheels was a simple process and I was soon ready to go! The Heelys came with safety warnings (so that you take the wheels seriously!), instructions on how to skate, and videos showing details of how to use the Heelys are easily accessible on the Heelys website. I like that the wheels on the shoes are removable, so if you or your child is in a situation in which heels aren't allowed, you can just wear them as great sneakers.

Even though I haven't been able to really use the Heelys to their full fun potential, I'm determined to give them another try as soon as my legs are up to it! Daniel is having entirely too much fun in them and I want a piece of the action.  I will learn how to skate around on my fun new shoes!

If you've been thinking that Heelys are just for kids, they're not- they're fun for everyone! If you're in the market for some Heelys, they are throwing a Labor Day/Back-to-School special.  Between Sept 2-Sept 5, Buy one pair of Heelys, get the second pair for only $30!

Disclosure: I received the Heelys to review for myself. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
