Book review and giveaway (closed): An Unlikely Suitor

Congrats to my winner: nannypanpan

I really enjoy books about history, both in non-fiction form and as presented in historical novels. So I was glad to have the chance to review a new book by Nancy Moser, called An Unlikely Suitor. Here's a bit about the book, from the publisher's website:
Spend a season in glamorous 1895 Newport in this compelling tale of friendship, devotion, and sacrificial love.
New York dressmaker Lucy Scarpelli befriends socialite Rowena Langdon as she's designing her 1895 summer wardrobe. Grateful for Lucy's skill in creating fashions that hide her physical injury, Rowena invites Lucy to the family mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, encouraging the unusual friendship.
One day Lucy encounters an intriguing man on the Cliff Walk, and love begins to blossom. Yet Lucy resists, for what Newport man would want to marry an Italian dressmaker working to support her family?
Rowena faces an arranged marriage to a wealthy heir she doesn't love, but dare a crippled girl hope for anything better?
And Lucy's teenage sister, Sofia, falls for a man well above her social class--but is he willing to give up everything to marry a woman below his station?
As the lives of three young woman--and their unlikely suitors--become entangled in a web of secrets and sacrifice, will the season end with any of them finding true happiness?
The thing that I most love about historical novels is the opportunity to feel like I'm seeing a different world and place in time through the eyes of the people in the book.  An Unlikely Suitor did not disappoint me, and within a few pages I was transported both back in time over a century and geographically to the other side of the country.  The author did a great job with her descriptions of life and social pressures and expectations.

I really liked the characters in An Unlikely Suitor a lot, and enjoyed the stories of romance and finding true love.  In addition to the romantic and historical aspects of the book, there's also a darker storyline running through the book, as the main characters stand up to a former coworker who does not wish them well. I thought this storyline added an interesting twist to the book and helped a lot with the character development. Overall, I thought this was an interesting, uplifting and entertaining read. Anyone who enjoys historical novels should take a look at this book!

I'm going to pass on my copy of An Unlikely Suitor to one of you! Open to US mailing addresses only, please.
