Review: Ortega Taco Shells and Taco Sauce

A couple of weeks ago my family had a fabulous thing show up on our doorstep, Whole Grain Corn Taco Shells and Taco Sauce from Ortega! I love food in general, but I REALLY love Mexican food, so this shipment made me very happy.  I immediately set about trying to figure out how to combine our new arrivals with the products already in my refrigerator. In the end, I decided to make taco salad!

Here's a bit about the two products that went into my taco salad.
Whole Grain Corn Taco Shells:
Excellent Source of Fiber and 16 grams of Whole Grains per serving.  Each package contains 10 Taco Shells, total net weight of 4.9 oz.

Ortega Whole Grain Taco Shells are rich with flavor and texture and offer the fiber and complex carbohydrates your body needs.  Our unique recipe combines whole kernel corn with whole grains for a delicious way to nourish and satisfy your body and the entire family.
Taco Sauce:
Ortega Taco Sauce is the #1 Best Selling Taco Sauce in America!  With its slow simmered, thick smooth formula and unique easy to pour bottle, no wonder Ortega is #1.
I combined the Taco Sauce with some meatless ground that we had in the fridge, added tomatoes, lettuce, a bit of sour cream and some cheese, then topped the whole thing off with taco shells and more sauce. And here's the nice finished product! The taco shells were delicious, and I really liked how the taco sauce as well. It was easy to add, both to my meat and to top off our finished product, and it added just the right amount of extra seasoning.  In addition to use in this taco salad, I've really liked having the taco sauce in my fridge to add to other things like scrambled eggs and nachos!

Daniel and I agreed that this was a great, tasty, and simple dinner. It's definitely going on my recipe rotation for future weeks!

I also received another product from Ortega, the Whole Wheat Tortillas. Tortilla shells are so versatile for recipes, but I decided to stick with the basics and just added some cheese and taco sauce and melted the whole thing together for a delicious, fast lunch.  Another winner!

In addition to the products that I reviewed, Ortega makes all sorts of other shells, tortillas, peppers, salsas and seasonings. And, if you want to be a bit more adventurous with your recipes than I was, definitely check out the recipes section on the Ortega website. There are tons of recipes there, so you'll be sure to be inspired and find something that your whole family will love!

Disclosure: I received these products to review for myself, thanks to Ortega and the Family Review Network. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone. All photos property of Ortega, unless otherwise noted.
