Review: Hasbro Family Game Night 3 for Wii

We have a new obsession in our house- this time it's for a new Wii game that we received- Hasbro Family Game Night 3. Here's a bit about the game, from its website:

In Family Game Night 3, discover endless family fun at the Family Game Night Theme Park!

Spin the wheel of fate in the GAME OF LIFE, find out “whodunit” in CLUE, get your groove on with TWISTER, trigger crazy chain reactions in MOUSE TRAP, or try your hand at YAHTZEE HANDS DOWN.

Enjoy classic and remixed versions of your favorite games, play with your own customized avatar, and challenge family and friends in online multiplayer (360 & PS3)!
The plaza
Family Game Night 3 has a really fun start- with your personalized Mii avatar standing in a plaza that looks like a seaside amusement park! My husband and I joked that date night doesn't happen often for us in real life, so it was cute to see our Miis hanging out together in the plaza- at least they got a date night! From the plaza you pick your game and head on in.

Out of the games, the Game of Life is my favorite. I always loved the board game and thought this was a nice version of a classic game.  The graphics are fun, the game moves quickly and there's never a dull moment.   Clue was also fun- although there are some things to get used to- such as needing the other players to look away when you're making a guess as to the suspect/weapon/location.  But it's fun to virtually walk around the board and see the rooms and characters pop up.

Twister is not what I expected- it's a dance game, not traditional Twister.  You follow a series of moves and get points for repeating the dance properly. This game took several tries to get the hang of, but I did like it once I figured things out.  Mousetrap was a game that I had fun playing with my son- he loved watching the players move around the board and was obsessed with the actions when the mousetrap is sprung- there's fabulous animation on that part! Yahtzee Hands Down also took me a little while to figure out, since it's not a game I've played before, but once I got it, I loved it! This is my favorite game to play when I'm playing by myself, and is also fun as a multi-player game.

I think that Family Game Night 3 is a great addition to any family's game library.  The variety of games is great, so you should be able to find something that appeals to everyone, whether you're playing home alone or have a whole group of people that want to play along.  Games have lots of options including quick games or full games and original versus remix versions.  You can play the games with one Wii controller or multiple controllers and also set the number of computer opponents.

As you play the games and earn points, you win prizes for your plaza, which is a fun little touch. The only complaint that I had about the game is that the font is very small and hard to read on the games- makes it a little tough to see all the instructions, especially if you're like me and are in the over 30-years-old age group.

So, if winter is getting to you and you need a new game to keep you entertained- definitely check out Family Game Night 3!

Disclosure: I received a copy of this game to review for myself. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
