Review: Tommee Tippee Sippy Cups

I have a major storage problem in my kitchen- mainly thanks to the overabundance of sippy cups in my cabinets!  It seems like we're always looking for a new and better sippy cup- something that my kids will drink from and something that really wont leak.  My daughter, Vivian, is something of an expert in making even non-spill cups lose fluid, so it's a constant search.

Our newest addition to the sippy cup collection are two cups from Tommee Tippee. We received two Li'l sippee sipper cups from the Explora line of Tommee Tippee products.  The Li'l sippee cups are also available as first cups, trainer cups, sport straw and flip top straw cups.   Tommee Tippee is Great Britain's #1 baby feeding brand, and now we in North America can enjoy the products as well. Here's some information about these cups from the Tommee Tippee website:
  • Soft Spout – supporting baby’s oral development for first transitions
  • Silicone soft top works without biting
  • Integrated one-piece valve for easy cleaning and no spills or leaks
  • Easy-grip shape for little hands
  • All lids and handles interchangeable with other Li’l Sippees cups and Closer to Nature bottles
  • Hygiene cap
  • 2x10 fl oz/300ml cups
The cups that we received are designed for kids 6 months of age and above. Ethan (my 3-year-old) still uses sippy cups for most of his drinks, since he's still pretty messy.  He had no trouble figuring out how to use these cups, even though he typically drinks from a straw, and he seemed to really like using them.  Getting the liquid out was easy for him, but it didn't come out too fast and choke him or spill.

Vivian shows off her nice cup!

Vivian tried to get these cups to leak, since that's one of her favorite hobbies.  She did manage to get a small amount to leak when she stuck her finger all the way into the spout, but it was less leakage than we get from her other cups, even with such extreme measures. I loved that when the kids dropped these sippy cups on the floor or couch, I didn't have a puddle of liquid to deal with later (as I do with most of their other cups!)

I also really, really love that these cups have a one-piece valve. Nothing to take apart and have to figure out how to get back together. Just wash off the one-piece lid and the cup and I was done. We're always losing parts of sippy cups in the messy cabinet, so one-piece features are a great feature for us. These cups are moving to the top of the pile in our cabinet and will definitely remain in heavy use in our cup rotation!
