Seattle area people- Another great free event this weekend!

I think Daniel and I are going to be very tired by the end of the day Saturday- we're going to the Museum of Flight in the morning, as part of the Smithsonian's Museum Day (details here). And we're going out that night on our annual date night to dinner and a local small theater.

And now it looks like we're going to have afternoon plans as well, because another great event is going on- the opening of Lake Union's Park! We've been driving by this and waiting for the opening for ages now, and the big day is finally almost here! I just got a press release with details of the big party- it sounds like great fun!
Lake Union Park, which has been in progress for the last ten years is finally opening this Saturday. To kick it off we are throwing a HUGE FREE PARTY. The party is sunrise to sunset and encompasses all 12 acres of the park: Land, Sky and Sea. Two musical stages with over 15 acts including Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, The Tallboys, John Proulx, Seattle Opera and Massive Monkees (as seen on America's Best Dance Crew). Over 12 types of FREE exercise classes including Tai Chi,  Athletes Stretching, Hatha Yoga, Kids Fun Run, High Energy Conditioning, African Dance, Flow Yoga, Zumba, Hula Hoop Yoga, Brazilian Dance, Laughter Yoga and Stand Up Paddle-boarding. A huge and diverse community is coming together to provide Bike Valet service complete with tune-ups, composting and tons of Earth-Friendly activities like FREE native plant-potting.

Kids will love performances by Bubbleman, Recess Monkey, the Kids Fun Run at 11 am complete with GREEN medals, Seattle Mascot Parade including the Storm Doppler, UW Huskies Marching Band and Cheerleaders, Native Plant Potting, face painters, magicians, puppets, All Ages Family Dance Party and more!

Don't miss Maritime Activities, as the park features steps into the water and a beach: Dragon Boats with drummers from the Seattle Flying Dragon Boat Club, Model Boat Pond Demonstrations by the Center for Wooden Boats, Seaplane Demonstrations – by Kenmore Air, FREE Boat Rides of all types by the Center for Wooden Boats, Arthur Foss tours and Tug Boat Storytime by NW SeaPort, Horn Sound Off – by Virginia V are just some of the awesome things to see and try!
