So, I've had a yummy new distraction from my diet lately- Duncan Hines Decadent Cakes! Thanks to the Family Review Network and Duncan Hines, I received the two newest flavors in the Duncan Hines line of Decadent Cakes- the Apple Caramel and Triple Chocolate.
After much deliberation, my husband and I decided that I should make the Apple Caramel cake first. I was initially a tiny bit intimidated, since the cake mix comes with two separate packages to be mixed up separately, and I'm a notoriously awful cook. But the instructions were clear and easy to follow and mixing everything up took just a couple of minutes. 30 minutes after starting the whole process, I had a beautiful cake cooling on my counter!
Looking pretty pre-baking!
Seriously, I couldn't get to the cake with the camera faster than my husband did with his fork. The apple caramel cake was a huge hit!
We both thought the apple caramel cake was really delicious. It's light and fluffy with nice chunks of apple and the swirls of caramel are really yummy with the apple. I told Daniel that this is the type of cake that gets me in trouble- not too sweet- very light- I could have eaten the entire pan! In the end I sent it away to work with Daniel the next morning and he said it was gone almost instantly.
The next day, in an attempt to cement my new position as "favorite office wife", I baked the triple chocolate cake for Daniel to take with him to work. Again, the instructions were easy to follow, everything went quickly and the cake was delicious. The fudge swirls make this a very moist chocolate cake- again, the kind that you can eat a lot of without noticing! And the chocolate chunks add an extra kick to the chocolate taste- it really is triple chocolate! Both Daniel and I liked this cake a lot as well, although I'd probably add frosting if I made it again, since I'm kind of a frosting junky. Again, his office ate it in no time. Today when I dropped him off at work, we saw a coworker in the parking lot and the first thing she said was "thank you so much for all the yummy cakes this week!"
Once again, I couldn't get to the cake with the camera fast enough
So, if your family needs a treat or if you need an idea for what to take to a potluck or gathering of some sort, check out the new Decadent Cakes from Duncan Hines. On the Duncan Hines website, you can more information about these new mixes as well as recipes and ideas for what to do with the cake mixes, other than just making a cake. I'm planning to try out the Apple Caramel bars made with the Apple Caramel cake mix. Sounds delicious! And, in addition to the cakes, they also have a new line of glazes. Everything you need for a yummy dessert!
Disclosure: I received these cake mixes to review for myself, thanks to Duncan Hines and the Family Review Network. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
