Review: Taffy by Lolly38- workout gear for women with curves!

You all know that I've been dieting and trying to eat more healthy foods in order to lose the baby weight that I'm still carrying around from kid #1.  What I haven't mentioned here is that I've just started working out too- I'm doing the Couch to 5K program, with hopes of running a 5K at the end of the summer.  I've worked out here and there since Vivian was born and have a pile of great workout DVDs and Wii games, but it's been challenging to find the time to exercise with the kids running around our small home.

Running is my new exercise plan, which means I have developed a new interest in workout clothes.  The first day that I went running I ended up wearing some ancient workout pants and a giant t-shirt. I could not possibly have felt less good about myself than I did as I ran around in my ugly, oversized outfit with sweat pouring down my face.

So it was perfect timing when, thanks to my involvement at the Product Review Place, a package showed up at my door with a beautiful activewear outfit from Taffy. Taffy is a line of activewear from Lolly38, one that, according to their website, is for women with curves. Yeah, that's me!  Taffy is different from other larger-sized activewear that I've seen in a couple of ways. The first way is that it's cute (but not cutesie), and it's cut to fit and flatter a curvy shape. Taffy is for women who want to look good while they workout and who want to embrace their figure.  The other main difference is in the way that the sizes are labeled- if you're a size 14-16, then you're a small! Love that!

I received the black pants, black jacket and black tank. I love the design on the leg of the pants. This is also found in a smaller version on the back of the jacket.  The fabric of all three of the pieces was really nice- soft to the touch and comfortable. Even though the jacket and pants would be classified as a "sweat suit", they're nothing like the old sweatpants that we all used to own. The fabric is light and not at all bulky. And there's a shape to the outfit- no bagginess here! As soon as I received this outfit, I put it on and came out to my living room to show Daniel, saying "look how cute I am!"  Trust me, that's a first for me while wearing workout clothes :)

Yesterday when I went out running it was 40 degrees, so I was wearing the jacket over the tank. Even though the jacket isn't made of a heavy fabric, it really did keep me warm while I was getting moving. At the same time, I didn't get too hot wearing it while running, and thought the fabric kept my body at a comfortable temperature throughout my entire workout. I also really like that the tank has a built in bra for extra support. Very important if you're a plus-sized woman trying to exercise!

There are no pockets on the jacket, tank or pants, which is good for the silhouette, but if you're wearing this away from home/the gym and carrying a phone or ipod, you'll have to figure some other way to carry those. Not a big deal, but it was something that I did notice.

It's amazing what a difference it made to my mood, feeling like I looked good while I was exercising.  I really think it gave me energy and made me feel like I didn't need to avoid passing other people. I felt cute and like a real runner!

Taffy also makes this same outfit that I received in gunmetal color pants and jacket and you can also get the tank in blue. Yoga pants are also available, if that's more along the lines of what you're looking for. The Taffy line comes in three sizes- small (14/16), medium (18/20) and large (22/24).

If you're a woman of larger size and are working on getting in shape, check out Taffy.  Feeling that you look good while working out really makes a big difference.

Disclosure: I received samples of this product to wear and test out for myself. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
