Review: Starbucks Pike Place Roast and Caffe Verona coffees

Even though the calendar says April- the weather here in Seattle is still firmly planted in winter. It's dark, it's rainy, it's cold and windy. So there's pretty much only one thing that's getting me through these long dark days stuck in the house with the kids. Coffee and lots of it.

So I was thrilled to get the chance, through my status as a BzzAgent, to get to review some Starbucks coffee! I received two bags of coffee in the mail (now that's a great day!), one bag of Pike Place Roast and one bag of Caffe Verona. I tend to order a latte of some sort when I visit Starbucks and not the drip coffees, so I hadn't tried either of these types of coffee before.

Let me just say, I'm kind of a coffee wimp, despite my addiction to the stuff. I tend to drink flavored coffees and like the sweeter varieties. So, of the two, I really liked the Caffe Verona the best. It's described by Starbucks as dark cocoa, roasty sweet, and I agree with that description. It's a bold coffee, but isn't at all bitter and had a nice flavor that was easy to drink, even without flavored creamer. I'm definitely buying this one again! Starbucks also says that it goes really well with chocolate. Chocolate and coffee- that's a great combo! The Pike Place Roast wasn't my favorite coffee, but it's a nice, medium-bodied coffee that I will keep on hand for serving to visitors, since not everyone likes the sweeter coffees. I enjoyed drinking it with a bit of creamer and thought it was easy to drink and the friends that I served it to really liked it as well.

So, if you're looking for a new coffee to try out, consider these two varieties of Starbucks!

Disclosure: I received these coffees to review for myself as part of my involvement as a BzzAgent. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.
