I need advice!

Daniel came home yesterday with my Mother's Day present. He was so excited about it that he couldn't wait to give it to me... mostly because he wanted the gift too- it's an iTouch! The funny thing is that I've been 1) asking for a better iPod, but 2) telling him that I cannot have anything that remotely accesses my email and internet, since I'm a giant addict!

So I need advice on a couple of things, now that this iTouch is in my life. It's a 1st generation iTouch, so not able to do camera stuff or super-fancy things, but I can download apps.  I need to know what are the best apps- particularly the free ones and things that would be useful for my family- kids are 2 1/2 and 11 months old.

Also, we have no case for this new device. Anyone know of a great Etsy shop or other site that makes nice cases/sleeves for iTouches (same size as iPhones, so that works too).

Oh lordy...I can relate! I received my iPod Touch a couple of years ago as a gift, though I had no idea I wanted one! It IMMEDIATELY became my best friend...constantly at hand. Constantly. Now I have an iPhone too, so I have twice the apps!! As for what would be good for you, it depends on what you need, what you like to do. You can search free apps at the iTunes store, and they feature Top Free Apps all the time. Just go explore the store a little!

Here, though, are some of my favorites.

General tools--"9-TOOLBOX" is good for a range of helpful tools, like currency converter, a 'days until' countdown feature, and even 'My Girl's Day', which helps keep track of your cycle! It also has a tip calculator, which is cool. I also use "COMPASS" a lot.

I also love "UNITS". I moved from the U.S. to Ireland last year and constantly have to translate everything, from dollars to Euros, Celsius to Fahrenheit, inches to centimeters. Use it all the time!

I have "ALL COUNTRIES", which has general info about every country in the world, and "TRANSLATOR", which is a pretty obvious name.

There are apps to find a restaurant, hospital, gas station, etc. in your area. I use one called "AROUND ME". And the "FLASHLIGHT" apps really do come in handy sometimes!!

I have two different dictionaries on my iPod and iPhone. I'm sure there are more, but mine are great, and they were both free. I use them daily.

I LOVE playing with some of the photo apps. You can convert pics to 'Lego Style', add "FRAMES", or use "iJIGGLE" or "WOBBLE" to mess around and have fun with your photos.

There are tons of games, of course. I like word games, so my faves are "WORD WARP" and "WORDWEAVER". You can get crosswords, wordfinds, you name it. I also have "JEOPARDY!" and "TRIVIAL PURSUIT", but I paid for those two.

One app that is absolutely GREAT is "THE LOUVRE" (or "MUSEE DU LOUVRE")! It's amazing...lets you explore the museum through virtual tour, but you can also learn more about each painting and artist featured there. It was free when I downloaded it, and it is really, really brilliant! One of the best I've seen.

I can't wait to see what apps other people use!

Hey, came across this today at Bonggamom Finds, and thought you might want to check it out.

Best Kids Apps

Haven't used it, don't know anything about it, but it might be a good place to find some goodies for your kids...though I myself am a heck of a lot more selfish with my i-Toys!! :D
