Have you returned your census form yet?

I have to admit, I had no idea how important the census data is to the government. As I posted a while back, census counts are used for more than 140 programs that distribute over $400 billion of federal funds to states and localities. Some of these programs include Special Education grants, Head Start, State Children's Health Insurance Program, and Improving Teacher Quality State grants.  And, since this funding distribution is determined by counts, it's important that everyone in the family is counted during the census. Babies and all!

Not only do we need to be sure to fill out the form and include everyone in the family, we need to be sure to mail the form back in by tomorrow, April 16th! If forms aren't sent in, then census takers have to go door-to-door to collect data.   Per household, it's about $57 for a census taker to drop by, as opposed to 42 cents in postage for us to send it back. If every household mailed back its 2010 Census forms, then we would reduce the cost of the census by $1.5 billion!!! That's an enormous difference- so send your form in right away! The deadline is tomorrow, April 16th!

Disclosure: I received no compensation for this post, just passing on some information!
