Mabel’s Labels recently posed a hypothetical situation to bloggers. The setting is this- the internet is going to be wiped out tomorrow by electrical storms, possibly for forever. What would I want my last words to the internet to be?
Everyone wants their last words to be funny and touching and full of great emotion. I had a hard time thinking of these type of words though, because the thought of losing the Internet made me curl up in the fetal position and start rocking and humming. People, if the Internet was wiped out forever, my husband would be driving me to the local psych ward within a couple of hours.
The Internet is my lifeline to the world. I’ve recently become a stay-at-home mom of a 2 ½ year old and an 8-month-old, and it’s been a challenging transition. The Internet is where I talk to other moms on message boards and know I’m not alone, where I blog about my joys and struggles, where I find things to make me laugh on the hard days.
Without the Internet I would be missing so many incredibly important things in my life- my beloved husband, who I met online; my friends from a message board that I’ve been visiting for 5 years; and some great real-life friends that I met through blogging. I couldn’t imagine my life without these people and the joy and fun and love and knowledge they’ve brought me.
So, to the Internet- if those mean storms get you, you will be deeply missed. Thank you for the happiness that you’ve brought to me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go start packing my suitcase for my trip to the looney bin.
