Review: Baby's First Phone Call!

A few months ago I was contacted by Baby's First Phone Call about doing a review of their service. Since I am done having babies, I roped in a very pregnant friend to help me out with the review. She agreed, and we finally got a chance to chat today about her experience.

Here's some information on Baby's First Phone Call from their website:
Baby's First Phone Call is an automated call tree that allows you to notify all of your friends and family of the arrival of your bundle of joy without the hassle of making dozens of individual phone calls, or leaving some friends and family to find out second- or third-hand.
With Baby's First Phone Call, you set up an account before your baby is born—when you still have a moment of time to yourself—and enter the names and phone numbers of all the people you want to notify when the baby arrives. Then, after the baby is born, you make a single phone call and leave a personal voice-mail message of any length with all the details you want to share.
Not only can you tell your friends and family when your little bundle arrived, you can share information such as the hospital and room number you're in and whether and when you'd like to receive visitors.
Our system places calls to each of the phone numbers in your account. If the person answers the phone they hear your happy message. If they don't answer, the message is left on their voicemail or answering machine. In either case, there is an option for them to leave you a return message that you can pick up at your convenience.
My friend, M, said that it was a pretty easy process setting up the account prior to their trip to the hospital. She got all the phone numbers entered and was ready to go. She did end up having some technical problems when she went to record the message about her baby's birth, the number that she was supposed to call to record the message didn't work. But that meant she also got to try out the great customer service of Baby's First Phone Call (BFPC). She called the service number on the website and ended up talking to the nice people behind BFPC in person- even though it was well after midnight their time. M thought she would be calling a number to leave a message- she had no idea someone would actually pick up! Within a few hours, M  got an email saying that the database issue was fixed, and she was able to then record her outgoing message about her baby's safe arrival. M did say that a few people, the ones she had added into her list last, didn't end up getting called because of the database issue, but other than that, it worked perfectly.

I was one of the recipients of the phone message and really liked it- even though it was a recording, the recording had a good introduction before M's message, so no one thought it was a telemarketer or anything. The message sounded great and I loved getting all the details about the new baby.  M said that the message got a really positive response from her friends and family. There's also a wonderful option to record a message back to the happy family- M said that three people, including her not-at-all-technologically-savvy grandmother used this option. M really liked that when she got a return message, it came to her email in a wav file, so she was able to save those congratulatory messages and will be able to play them for her son when he gets older.

M also got this cute onesie for her new baby, and she said it's adorable.

So, this service gets a thumbs-up vote from us! I think it would be especially great for people that are part of a big family or have a large church or work group that they want to share the new about their new arrival with, without actually making lots of phone calls themselves. M did say that you should set this up a few months before your baby is due to arrive- she waited so long that the luggage tag that BFPC sends you actually arrived after her baby did :) Go check it out!

Disclaimer: I received a $75 gift certificate for this service, which I gave to my friend to use for this review. I also received 4 $50 gift certificates which I gave away here on this blog (giveaway already ended, sorry!).  I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions expressed here are mine and my friend, M's!
