Review: Pom Wonderful!

I recently had the opportunity to try out a product that I've been curious about for quite some time- POM Wonderful juice. I've seen the curvy bottles on the juice shelf in my local grocery store, but have just never picked one up.  So I was excited to receive 4 sample bottles to test out for myself.

Before I tasted the juice, I read all about it on the POM Wonderful website and learned a lot.  For example, I learned that POM is the only brand that can guarantee 100% pomegranate juice, because POM is the only one who grows, juices and bottles its own fruit. And this juice is really healthy, a fact which is backed up by $32 million in scientific research.  Studies have shown that POM Wonderful juice improved blood flow to the heart in patients with coronary heart disease, indications of slower disease progression in men with recurrent prostate cancer, and improved "function" in men with ED. In addition to those findings, numerous independent lab tests have shown  that POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice has superior antioxidant content than other juices.

So, fully educated about the juice, I opened the first bottle and took a sip. And honestly, didn't like it much at first, because it was a lot more tart than I was expecting. Most fruit juices that I drink are so sugary and sweet, so a tart juice was a surprise. But after a few more sips, I started really liking the flavor. My husband (who doesn't have as much of a sweet tooth) thought it was great from the first time he tried it.  We've been fighting over who gets to drink the last bottle- right now I've hidden it at the back of the fridge. :)  But since he's such a nice guy, I'll probably share it with him after all.

The juice is fairly high in calories, 160 per serving, which worried me a bit at first. But then I started looking at all the ways I waste calories during the day on a cookie here and a piece of chocolate there. Drinking a glass of pomegranate juice is a much better use of 160 of my daily calories, especially since I tend to not eat enough fruits during the day and don't get nearly as many antioxidants as I need in my diet.  If you're really concerned about calories, one POMx pill has all the antioxidants of one serving of POM Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice and no calories.  In addition to the 100% pomegranate juice and the POMx pills, POM makes a number of other products including juice blends, tea, iced coffee, POMx bars, and POMx shots.

You can find lots of information on POM Wonderful juices and products on the website, as well some truly yummy looking recipes and a store locator to help you track down POM Wonderful in your area.

I heart POM, too! Unfortunately my husband can't drink it every day because it gives him the runs :)
